Scotland has announced a 17-man squad for their much-anticipated home T20I series against Australia, set to begin on September 4. Richie Berrington will captain the squad as Scotland prepares to host Australia in Edinburgh for the first time in T20I history.

The two teams have faced each other only once in T20Is, during the recent World Cup at Gros Islet. In that encounter, Scotland posted a competitive 180, but Australia chased down the target with five wickets in hand, thanks to key contributions from Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis.

Doug Watson, the head coach of the Scotland men’s team, expressed his excitement about the series and the immense opportunity it presents for his players to challenge one of the best cricket teams in the world. Speaking to the official website, he remarked:

“I’m hugely excited. It’s a wonderful opportunity to play one of the best teams in the world, and I’m pretty sure that our players won’t need any motivating for this series.” Watson emphasized the importance of this experience for his players, adding:

“It’s a great opportunity for them to share the field with world-class players. They’re wanting to put in some huge performances and compete, and really push this Australia team.”

Watson also highlighted the significance of winning the opening match, suggesting that it could set the tone for the rest of the series:

“The goal for us is to win this series. The first game is really important – if we can win that, it’ll set up the next two matches beautifully.” He added that the series will be a fantastic experience for everyone involved, from the squad and staff to the supporters and the entire nation.
