The stage is set for the IPL 2025 auction, which will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24-25. With a record 1,574 players registering, including 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas players, the two-day event is expected to be one of the grandest auctions in IPL history.

Here are some key details ahead of the mega auction:

  1. Player Breakdown: The registrations include 320 capped players, 1,224 uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations. Of the registered players, only those with sufficient interest from franchises will make it to the final list under the hammer.
  2. Indian and International Representation: India has the largest contingent, with 48 capped players and 965 uncapped players. South Africa has the most overseas registrations at 91, followed by Australia (76) and England (52). In addition, players from Associate Nations such as the USA, Canada, Scotland, UAE, and Italy have entered the auction pool.
  3. Maximum Squad Capacity: Each of the 10 franchises will be allowed to select a maximum squad of 25 players, competing for a total of 204 available slots. This format encourages franchises to strategically bid on key players.
  4. Star-Studded Auction Pool: With strict retention policies, several marquee players are expected to be available for bidding, including last season’s winning captain Shreyas Iyer, as well as Indian stars Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. International stars like Jos Buttler are also likely to feature, making it a high-stakes auction for franchises.
  5. New Auction Cycle: The 2025 auction will kick off a new three-year cycle until IPL 2028. As per the updated regulations, only those overseas players who register in this auction will be eligible to participate in the 2026 mini-auction, adding a layer of exclusivity to this year’s event.

The 2025 auction promises an exciting lineup of talent and strategy, setting the stage for yet another thrilling IPL season. With Jeddah hosting the event, the IPL continues to expand its global footprint.
