The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has unveiled the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024. This exciting tournament is scheduled to run from August 17 to September 8, 2024, at the renowned Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The DPL 2024 will feature 33 electrifying T20 matches in the men’s category, with six zone-based franchise teams representing various regions of Delhi. These teams include the West Delhi Lions (West Delhi), South Delhi Superstarz (South Delhi), North Delhi Strikers (North Delhi), Purani Delhi Royals (Old Delhi), East Delhi Riders (East Delhi), and Central Delhi Kings (Central Delhi).
The West Delhi Lions, a franchise representing North Delhi, is owned by Brew Force Limited, which secured the team for INR 8 crore.
Among the standout players for the West Delhi Lions are Navdeep Saini, a right-arm medium pacer from Rajasthan Royals, and Hrithik Shokeen, a former Mumbai Indians spinner. They will be joined by Akhil Chaudhary, Yogesh Kumar, and Suryakant Chauhan in the bowling lineup, forming a formidable attack.
For wicket-keeping responsibilities, the Lions have strong options in Shivam Gupta and Krish Yadav. The batting lineup includes reliable players such as Ankit Kumar, Yugal Saini, and Ekansh Dobal, who will be crucial to the team’s performance. Additionally, Deepak Punia, Shivank Vashisth, Dev Lakra, and Aryan Dalal will provide both depth in batting and strength in bowling, making the lineup well-rounded.
The team also features versatile all-rounders who will make significant contributions in both batting and bowling. These players include Ayush Duseja, Vivek Yadav, Masab Alam, Tishant Dabla, and Abraham Masoodi.
The West Delhi Lions are set to take on the North Delhi Strikers in their first match of the Delhi Premier League 2024 on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
